Installing Conservatory Insulation

CONSERVATORY CEILING INSULATION SPECIALISTS

You may be wondering how conservatory insulation works. If conservatories are surrounded by windows from the walls to the roof, where does the insulation go? Is it invisible? Let us provide the answers to these big questions!

Multifoil Applied to Ceilings

The primary area focused on by our trained specialists is the conservatory ceiling, since heat rises and that is where the majority of it can be insulated and ventilated. The ceiling is covered with our innovative and hygienic multifoil insulation material (also used for loft insulation), supported by timber frames, before being sealed up with a layer of solid plasterboard for an aesthetically pleasing finish. This will completely cover your ceiling window panes.

Great for Hot and Cold Seasons

In the spring and summer months, you may be less inclined to purchase insulation for your home, since the weather is so much hotter that it seems unnecessary – however, effective insulation will help to make your home cool and comfortable in summer, just as it will warm you in winter. Conservatory insulation is perfect for keeping cool air circulation throughout the lower floors of your home. It’s a great all-year-round investment.

Benefits of Conservatory Roof Insulation

You may be surprised to discover that there are many advantages to installing conservatory roof insulation. First and foremost, effective conservatory insulation can…

Save money on your heating bills
Proper insulation will eliminate the need to leave the radiators on at full blast 24/7 during winter, leaving your energy bills at a refreshing all-time low. Greater energy efficiency leads to lower carbon emissions and less financial stress in the long term future. Furthermore, you don’t have to waste money on unreliable electric dehumidifiers for removing condensation.
Reduce condensation build-up
Condensation can be especially problematic in conservatories – for instance, steam from cooking in the kitchen can travel to the nearby conservatory area and cover the windows in blindingly thick layers of moisture, which is the result of warm air resting on colder surfaces and producing liquified water. Our waterproof insulation material can draw the moisture away from the windows, allowing it to be harmlessly absorbed into the walls or ceiling.
Reduce light pollution
Furniture fading and discolouring due to prolonged sunlight exposure in conservatories is a nuisance that can be easily prevented by installing roof insulation to filter out harmful excess UV radiation coming in from above. Conservatories are designed to allow healthy amounts of sunlight to shine through, which is great, but signs of sun-bleached furniture may be an indicator that some extra protection is needed.
Reduce noise
Conservatory insulation is effective at noise reduction. A fully insulated conservatory can block up to 80% of sound from reverberating inside or outside. So, whether you want to have some music playing on loudspeakers or want to block out the sound of rain pattering on the roof, professionally installed insulation can definitely help reduce any aggravation for both you and your neighbours.
Improve overall home comfort
You want to be able to enjoy your home’s conservatory all year round without feeling like you’re either freezing or cooking alive inside. As said, insulation is all about regulating flow of heat throughout a building, keeping warm air inside when it’s cold outside and vice versa. This keeps your conservatory from feeling overwhelmingly hot or cold in our famously fluctuating English climate.
Increase the value of your home
It’s well known that constructing a conservatory is an excellent way to increase the resale value of your home. Why not boost your home’s valuation even more by getting some professionally applied insulation to the conservatory? A properly insulated conservatory with good heat retention is enormously attractive to potential buyers and estate agents, so it really is beneficial to go the extra mile!

Foil Conservatory Insulation Benefits

Materials We Use

Conservatory insulation is constructed from three primary components: aluminium multifoil panels, plastic or wooden cladding, timber frame supports, and finally a second plasterboard ceiling as covering. The installation process rarely takes more than a single day to complete!

Multifoil is an extremely versatile insulation material with brilliant moisture resistance and the ability to radiate heat throughout a building during cold weather. Multifoil was originally developed for use on NASA space shuttles, but it is now an increasingly popular home insulation material around the world. Unlike conventional materials, multifoil is clean and simple to install, producing no harmful particles when laid into position.

Our Conservatory Insulation Process

Have a readthrough of the steps we take during a standard conservatory insulation installation process. The pathway from your initial enquiry to the full installation will be streamlined and hassle-free.

01

Free Survey

Our professional surveyors will inspect your conservatory and measure it from every angle, all without charge! After fully assessing the area and judging it to be suitable for insulation, the path to the installation can begin. During the survey, we can take the opportunity to provide a brief project overview and manage potential hazards.

02

Quote

Not long after the full survey is conducted and all your requirements are discussed, we will issue you a detailed quote, which will include a total cost breakdown and take into account the full scale of the work, so should be no worries about being left in the dark!

03

Place Your Order

Once you have an ideal date locked down, waste no time in booking with us! With only 25% deposit required, you can easily secure all the information you need to proceed, namely the contract, schedule of payment and a thorough overview of all the installers’ plans for the work ahead, with estimated dates of completion included.

04

Technical Survey

Please ensure that as many moveable objects are taken out of the workspace as possible by the time that the installing team arrives at your property, as this makes it easier for the installers to utilise the whole space.

05

Installation

When that’s done, the installers will come to lay down the insulation material. Our professionals are trained to use the correct safety equipment and precautions for all kinds of installation procedures, without taking any perilous shortcuts.

    Michael Morton
Loft Insulation Installer helped me to get a grant from the council for loft insulation. From the initial site review to installation, the team provided a professional and knowledgeable service, making the entire process a very straightforward one. My thanks to everyone involved.
    Secretary

Dennis and Kade did a fantastic job in insulating our roof spaces. They treated our residents with the utmost respect at all times, as well as avoided 2 beehives along the way! True Professionals and a delight to work with.

    Debbie McCluskey

Loft Insulation Installers were on time for the appointment and insulated my loft with 300mm of insulation with funding as promised and no charge to me. They were clean and tidy and completed the job at the time specified. I would happily recommend this loft insulation company!

    Nigel Hinds

Loft Insulation Installer cleared out my loft of all its contents, hoovered it clean, and installed new wool insulation, eaves ventilators and boarding. The team also helped return my items for storage to the loft afterwards. The company was pleasant and straightforward to deal with throughout the process, thorough and trustworthy. The work was carried out tidily, and the house was left clean and neat. The work took less time than I had previously been advised. There was slight damage to a bedroom ceiling, and an appropriate resolution was swiftly agreed. Now I need to find out if it will keep the house warmer – I hope so.

    Graham

Such an easy company to deal with. From start to finish the communication was excellent. No lengthy waiting, a thorough survey, such that suitable materials and approach were taken. The installation team were fantastic – so polite, courteous, hard-working, knowledgable, respectful of us and our home and knowledgable. The area was left as clean as when they arrived. Nothing was too much trouble, despite some awkward and tight areas. The level of workmanship is really second to none and we are looking forward to reaping the benefits of what is now a properly insulated home. whether you have a relatively modern home or one that’s as quirky as ours (60’s style) I would not hesitate to recommend RJ Insulation as a credible provider.

    K Clarke

We needed two loft spaces re-insulated, so put out a request on Bark. RJ Insulation contacted us immediately and, after we looked at their website and checked their reviews, we arranged for their engineer to visit and provide a quotation. We were kept well-informed by email of exactly what, when and how all would happen. The insulation team arrived on time, were most professional, worked hard, did a brilliant job and cleaned up after themselves. They used lambs wool in the smaller loft and Superfoil in the larger loft – both look spectacular and our house is warmer already. An excellent company.

    Noor

From the initial contact with the company to the complete job done went very smoothly. The quotation, survey and installation of the insulation were done by very courteous, friendly people. They arrived on time on the day the storm Eunice was causing travelling very difficult and we were not expecting them to show up at all. They removed and bagged all the old insulation and installed the new insulation. I am also very pleased with loft boarding but there was some misunderstanding about the fitting and I was not happy about it. I contacted the office about this and I was assured that the fitters will return and finish the job to my satisfaction. I am very pleased that the promise was kept and all the work is done to a very high standard and we are very happy with the warm house. We will definitely recommend Loft Insulation Installer to everyone who wishes to have their loft installation done.

    Jo Worman

From the initial enquiry through to the end of the job was just fantastic. I had an immediate quote from the surveyor and everything was explained thoroughly. The job was to empty a rubbish tip that was the loft, including mattresses and water tanks and 40-year-old cladding, hoover the whole area, install the Superfoil to the rafters and lay new sheep wool and new boarding, a two-day job. I was quickly given date and had several calls from the office to ensure me that everything was going to plan. This is once-in-a-lifetime customer service and professionalism. The quality of the work is stunning. It’s incredible. I cannot say enough about this company, they really do deserve all the recognition and appreciation they get. Of all the work I have done in many years in many countries, this was the best experience. Super job, super team, super quality.
I wish them all the best.

    Anthony Davis

Great service – kept informed throughout, from initial quote to fitting. The guys fitting the insulations were hardworking, courteous and cleaned up well after themselves. Would thoroughly recommend Loft Insulation Installer.

Loft Insulation Installer service was excellent, efficient from initial enquiry/visit/survey to installation. Each member of staff we worked with were friendly and professional. Their advice was comprehensive, timely visit/inspection and their quotes were accurate when we checked them out. Each part of the job they let us know what they were doing and timeframe. The installation team arrived on time, worked diligently, and kept us informed throughout including videos and left the house spotlessly clean. We would highly recommend Loft Insulation Installer.

    Ellis

The Loft Insulation Installers were great communicators throughout the entire process, from quote to on-the-day install. They keep you informed of what was happening and why, showing you the work-in-progess so you know what you’re getting. The install team were a really nice bunch, friendly, and helpful. The did a fantastic job, and finished up with immaculately clean house from the 3rd floor down to front door, where they’d transported all the materials. Thanks to all involved – very happy to recommend!

    Conservatory Insulation Installation FAQs

    Are conservatory walls already insulated?

Some properties may have existing insulation in place, but the majority of conservatories are constructed with no substantial insulation layering at all, aside from basic double-glazing on the windows. From a design standpoint, this makes sense as conservatories are often used as sunrooms or greenhouses for plant cultivation, so allowing sunlight to shine through as much as possible is the desired goal.

However, as the seasons shift, temperatures fluctuate and the weather continues to be endearingly unpredictable, the glass ceiling of a conservatory can rapidly change from its most appealing feature to its most critical design flaw. As people regularly use their conservatories in their normal day-to-day lives at all times of the year, these sunny spaces are increasingly proving to be a costly waste of heat and a money pit for overpriced energy bills. Opting to insulate the entire conservatory roof can be a smart money-saving move.

How much does conservatory insulation cost?

Conservatory insulation is low cost and affordable, with a standard installation in a 10ft x 10ft conservatory space usually costs at least £3,000. Contact our team to get a free quote that will figure out how to meet your property’s needs based on a number of factors, including the size, shape and relative location of the conservatory.

How can conservatory insulation be improved?

Most conservatories do not have very robust insulation in place. Usually, there’s little more than a thin layer of window glazing which, rather than protect your home, will often cause UV rays to be amplified on bright summer days and result in interior furnishings becoming faded and discoloured. Adding a sealed layer of opaque insulation strengthens the conservatory’s heat retention and air flow. If you have foil insulation already installed and feel that it is not adequate, our specialists can reinforce it for improved performance.

    How is conservatory insulation fitted?

First, timber supports are fitted around the ceiling window frames. Then, layers of multifoil insulation are placed along the inside of the window frames, covering the entire ceiling with foil. Finally, a layer of plasterboard is applied to keep the foil in place and hide it from view. The expert installers we dispatch to your home will make sure that the structures are securely fastened – by the end, it’ll look as though the new ceiling has always been there!

    Is conservatory insulation worth it?

Ignoring the ever-so-slight bias we may have towards the subject, we wholeheartedly recommend conservatory insulation as a worthwhile investment to greatly improve the liveability, energy efficiency and property value of your home. It’s much cheaper and less difficult than getting a full home extension built from scratch, but it can emulate the feeling of one.

A standard single pack of SupaSoft loft insulation can cost between £15-20 and will include up to three individual rolls of insulation fibre to cover a few square metres.

How much conservatory insulation do I need?

A standard arched conservatory roof will rarely need much more than six layers of multifoil insulation. Our surveyors can provide detailed recommendations for your building’s individual needs.

    How does conservatory insulation work?

    • The diagram below shows the inner workings of multifoil loft insulation.
    • Foam wadding – Despite the name, multifoil is not purely made of foil alone. The layers of aluminium are held together with strands of foam insulation material, which gives it some extra heft.
    • Air cavities – The small gaps between the layers of foil and foam wadding greatly enhance the insulating proficiency, since these cavities contain pockets of air that can cushion any breeze that hits them.
